People work with people they like and trust. So when you know a Realtor that has done a great job for you and your family, that Realtor tends to be your family Realtor. They come for birthdays and get togethers. They are like family to you. This is the absolute best part of my job in fact. From clients to friends I call it.
Loyalty to a great Agent is good business decision on your part. Some of the nuances are out of the way and you can be straight forward with them to get down to business. Knowing the temperament and dedication to fiduciary duty they show you is probably why you continue to work with them.
Unfortunately some families get stuck in the predicament of using a relative/friend that doesn’t have much experience. Often I hear people feel obligated to use that relative/friend no matter what. What if that decision cost you tens of thousands of dollars due to lack of experience? Ultimately, wouldn’t you want to remain in good spirits with that relative/friend instead of begrudging them later for the money you felt they cost you?
There is a solution. You can choose an Agent that you want to work with because of their knowledge and experience. That Agent could then offer your relative/friend a referral fee. This is the best of both worlds. You get the house you want at a fair price and they are not cut out of it. Consider this option if you are ever in the same position. It could save you the loss of a relationship and from missing out on a great home.
