An unfortunate truth became apparent to me as I entered the Real Estate industry five years ago, Realtors are not typically someone most people felt they could trust. In fact, they ranked right around the reputation of a lawyer.
As inconvenient as this was for me, I knew then I’d need to ask myself a couple of questions.
Firstly, I had just completed the expensive process to become an Agent; Would all my hours of studying, testing and qualifying for this career be in vain? Was I truly ready to give up just because of the perception of my job had become loathsome?
Secondly, perhaps more importantly, why were Realtors thought of with such disdain? Why did so many people feel they couldn’t trust Real Estate Agents? Had unscrupulous Agents really taken advantage of people at their most vulnerable time and with their largest investments? The answer seemed to be Yes.
That said, if I intended to be proud of the work I was going to do, I would need to reinvent the perception of a “Realtor” from the ‘self-serving position’ it had become too, ‘mindfully being of service’ while earning an income for my family.
This spirit was codified as I helped my first clients sell their home and buy a new one. They had placed their lives and future in my hands and trusted me to treat them like family.
The importance of helping people at their moments of uncertainty and vulnerability has filled me with purpose from that day. And from then on, it became so clear that this job is much bigger than a dollar amount and it has to be treated with such reverence. Helping people with their Real Estate needs requires intellectual honesty and character. After all, so many lives are affected by each housing transaction.
Every Buyer or Seller is directly affected by the financial outcome of the transaction so it is vital to have an experienced agent working with integrity to actualize your real estate goals.
I know the uphill battle of changing societal perceptions, but I’m also confident in who I am, why I entered into this industry and why it’s worth it. And my passion is to help people and families, one home and one sale at a time. So, for anyone who places their trust in me to find their dream home, to move on from their current house or to just make this process easy and less stressful, I’m here for you.
